Advanced Nursing Foot Care Program

ANFC Program

The ANFC program is designed for nurses (LPN’s, RPN’s, RN’s, & NP’s) who are new to foot care or who wish to update their knowledge and skills. In order to enrol in this program, the nurse must have a current license in good standing with the province or territory they are taking the course in.

Our curriculum has been approved by Veteran’s Affairs Canada.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS


Admission Documents Required for ANFC Program:

  1. Nursing License (LPN/RPN/NP or RN) must active and in good standing in the student’s Province/Territory.
  2. Personal Learning Device.
  3. Proficient in English.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

 

Program Cost is $3,000 and includes the following:

  • Part 1 – Foot Care Theory AND Part 2- Foot Care Practicum.
  • The following textbook: Lazenby, Cindy L.M. (2017) “Art & Science of Foot Care” A Clinical Resource for Nurses in Canada”.
  • Links to the Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses (CAFCN) National Competencies and Infection Prevention And Control (IPAC) Reprocessing of Critical Foot Care Devices.
  • Sample documentation tools.
  • Basic set of instruments to include:
    • Black’s File
    • Excavator
    • Nippers
    • Foot Dresser

Part 1: Foot Care Theory


This is the theoretical component of the program.   It is delivered online and the student may complete the program at their own pace.   The student will have up to 6 months to complete this 110 hour program.

The course follows a comprehensive, advanced and diabetic nursing foot care curriculum.   This curriculum is based on current best practice guidelines and evidence-based practice, including the CAFCN’s National Competencies for Advanced Nursing Foot Care in Canada.

Students are expected to complete online testing and view pre-recorded presentations from their computer.

Part 2: Foot Care Practicum


Part 2 is the clinical component of the program.  Students must be successful with Part 1 before moving into the clinical component.

The practicum is 45 hours. 5 hours are online study/testing in the Moodle Classroom followed by five segments of hands’ on foot care in their community with an ANFC Instructor.  The student will have 6 months to complete the practicum.


Tuition assistance is available through the Labour Force Training (LFT) program.  Under the LFT program, nurses may be eligible for 75% of their tuition to be paid in full (not a loan).  Click here for more info.
