ACAHS recognizes the decision to study abroad is quite possibly the biggest decision of your life. With that in mind, we will treat you and your journey as if we were you. We feel very strongly that your ability to be successful in our Personal Support Worker (PSW) Nurse programs will be directly connected to you having your basic needs safely met. That is why we have partnered with settlement services for the following:

  1. Pick you up at the airport.
  2. Provide accommodations that you may rent month to month or sign a lease.
  3. Help obtaining your provincial Medicare health insurance. ACAHS has partnered with Guard.me (https://www.guard.me/) to provide your health care insurance while you wait for your provincial health insurance to become effective.
  4. Assistance with obtaining your Social Insurance Number (SIN).   This is typically the priority action as a SIN is required to open a bank account, obtain a cell phone and most importantly, be able to be employed.  You may work part time as a student and we are happy to connect you with potential employers.
  5. Assistance with obtaining a cell phone.
  6. Assistance with setting up a bank account.
  7. Assistance to identify transportation resources.

Why ACAHS?

Our Personal Support Worker (PSW) Nurse Diploma programs blend online virtual classroom for the theory, Monday thru Friday 8am-2pm. As long as you have a learning device and wifi, you can study from anywhere in New Brunswick.

Your PSW practicum will be hosted by a long term care facility in your community. Most students work for these long term care facilities while they are students in our PSW Nurse program. This often leads to employment offers that are associated with immigration pathways.

ACAHS does not issue Post-Graduate Work Permits (PGWP’s).

Personal Support Worker (PSW) Nurse for International Students

Our PSW Nurse programs was developed by 3 University of New Brunswick Nurse Educators with curriculum resourced from an Environmental Scan of all PSW programs throughout Canada (except Quebec). Our curriculum was also developed based on the New Brunswick PSW Certification standards. As a result, our PSW Nurse graduates are prepared to work in any environment that employs PSW’s (ie. Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Special Care Homes and private dwellings) and your certification is portable between the provinces.

Graduates will receive their Personal Support Worker Nurse Diploma and may apply to bridging programs with other privately regulated colleges and universities.
