Advanced Standing Personal Support Worker
(ASPSW) Online Program

OVERVIEW

The Advanced Standing Personal Support Worker (ASPSW) Nurse Diploma program is an online program designed for students who have previous experience in the Personal Support Worker (PSW) role. The student must have at least 450 hours of experience working in the role of a PSW and their employer(s) must confirm they are safe and competent with the essential PSW skill set, able to perform at the level of a new PSW graduate.

There are a total of 8 modules in this program which include chapter exams and critical thinking scenarios. Resource links are located within the course and students have the choice of a physical textbook or an electronic text book.

Once the student has successfully completed the modules, ACAHS and the student will determine the final exam date.   The PSW Certification exam is a 3 hour, 160 question, online exam with a virtual proctor throughout the session.  Students must also be able to provide documentation to demonstrate they have a minimum of 450 hours of experience in the PSW role and the required skill set. Upon successful completion of the PSW Certification exam and validation of their hours/skills in the role of a PSW, they will be issued their Personal Support Worker Nurse Diploma.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Admission Documents Required for ASPSW Nurse Program:

1. 18 years of age at time of graduation.   You may take the program prior to age 18 but will not be able to be certified as a PSW until age 18.
2. High school diploma or GED certificate (If under 21 years of age).
3. Personal Learning Device.
4. Internet Access.
5. Proficient in English.
6. Minimum of 450 hours of experience working in the role of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) AND the ability to perform the mandatory PSW’s skills at the level of a new PSW graduate.
